Overview

The SINET™ Left-Side Cadence Pedal Assist Sensor provides pedal-assist activation by detecting crank rotation through a 12-magnet split disc installed on the left side of the crank.

This external cadence sensor is secured to the frame with zip ties and positioned next to the magnet disc. As the rider pedals, the magnets pass the sensor and signal the SINET™ system to provide motor assistance according to the selected pedal-assist level.

  • External left-side pedal-assist sensor
  • Includes a 12-magnet split pedal-assist disc
  • Detects crank rotation to activate pedal assistance
  • Sensor secures to the frame with zip ties
  • Split disc installs on the left side of the crank
  • Sensor must be positioned within approximately 2 mm of the magnet disc
  • Designed for current E-BikeKit SINET™ systems
  • No bottom bracket removal or frame drilling required for most installations
  • No product variants

Cadence Sensor Notice: This sensor detects whether and how quickly the crank is rotating. It does not measure rider force. Motor assistance is based on crank movement, the selected assist level, and the controller settings.

How Cadence Pedal Assist Works

The 12-magnet disc rotates with the crank. Each time a magnet passes the external sensor, the sensor sends a signal to the SINET™ controller confirming that the rider is pedaling.

Once the required crank movement is detected, the controller activates motor assistance according to the selected pedal-assist level.

  • Pedaling rotation activates assistance
  • Stopping the crank stops the pedal-assist signal
  • The selected LCD assist level determines the programmed motor output
  • The sensor does not measure how hard the rider is pedaling

Compared with a bottom bracket torque sensor, cadence assistance is simpler and more direct. It is generally easier to install but does not provide the same proportional response to rider effort.

Fitment Requirements
  • Installation Side: Left side of the crank
  • Sensor Position: Mounted to the frame with zip ties
  • Magnet Disc: 12-magnet split disc installed on the left side of the crank
  • Required Sensor Gap: Approximately 2 mm or less from the magnet disc
  • Electrical Platform: Current E-BikeKit SINET™ system
  • Crank Clearance: Sufficient space for the split disc to rotate without contact
  • Frame Clearance: Suitable mounting location close enough to the magnet disc

Important: Before installation, confirm there is adequate clearance between the left crankarm, bottom bracket area, frame, and magnet disc. The sensor must remain securely positioned and close enough to the disc for reliable magnet detection.

Compatibility

Compatible With:

  • Current E-BikeKit SINET™ conversion systems
  • Current E-BikeKit SINET™ complete trike systems
  • SINET™ integrated-controller systems
  • SINET™ external-controller systems
  • Compatible bicycles and trikes with sufficient left-side crank and frame clearance

Not Compatible With:

  • Legacy E-BikeKit pedal-assist systems
  • Legacy E-BikeKit controllers or wiring harnesses
  • SINET™ bottom bracket torque-sensor connections
  • Third-party electrical systems unless compatibility has been confirmed
  • Installations without adequate clearance for the sensor and magnet disc

Matching connector appearance alone does not confirm electrical compatibility. Verify the complete electrical platform before ordering.

Installation Notes
  • Disconnect and remove the battery before beginning installation.
  • Install the 12-magnet split disc on the left side of the crank.
  • Verify the disc is fully seated, centered, and able to rotate without contacting the frame, crankarm, or sensor.
  • Mount the external sensor securely to the frame using the included zip ties.
  • Position the sensing face toward the magnets.
  • Maintain a gap of approximately 2 mm or less between the sensor and magnet disc.
  • Confirm that the magnet disc passes the active sensing area of the sensor during crank rotation.
  • Route the sensor cable away from crankarms, chainrings, chains, steering components, tires, and sharp edges.
  • Align connector arrows and pins before joining the plugs. Do not twist or force the connectors.
  • Rotate the crank by hand and verify that the disc and sensor do not make contact.
  • After installation, test pedal-assist engagement and cutoff before returning the bicycle or trike to service.

Adjustment Note: If pedal assist does not activate consistently, first verify the sensor direction, magnet-disc orientation, alignment, and the distance between the sensor and disc.

Cadence Sensor vs. Torque Sensor

The cadence sensor and bottom bracket torque sensor provide two different types of pedal-assist response.

  • Cadence Sensor: Detects crank rotation and activates the programmed assistance assigned to the selected pedal-assist level.
  • Torque Sensor: Measures rider effort and adjusts assistance proportionally to pedaling force.

The external cadence sensor is generally simpler to install because it does not require bottom bracket replacement or drilling a cable-routing hole in the frame.
